Court Services Division Civil Unit Receives Unit Citation

(Bel Air, Md – November 8, 2005) — Harford County Sheriff R. Thomas Golding presented 13 members of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Court Services Division, Civil Unit with a Unit Citation in a special ceremony held this afternoon in the Ceremonial Court Room of the Harford County Court House. The Civil Unit, under the command of Major Jesse Bane, and Captain Steven E. Bodway were recognized for outstanding service.

During 2004, the Civil Unit served 53,281 processes and compiled a 93.2 percent service rate. Those processes included 38,781 court issued processes, 14,000 rent notices and 500 Peace Orders. The Civil Unit is projected to serve approximately 55,000 processes by the end of 2005, exceeding the previous year’s totals by more than 2,100 processes.

The Civil Unit experienced a 13.5 percent increase in process service since 2000, but has successfully met the challenge and currently possesses the highest service rate compared to other sheriff’s offices in the State of Maryland.

Sheriff William Kunkle first placed the Civil Unit in service in the mid-1970’s. The Unit has experienced an increased demand for service process through the years as Harford County has grown.

Commenting on the Unit Citation, Sheriff Golding stated, “The men and women of the Court Services Division, Civil Unit have demonstrated superior performance and quality customer service to the citizens of Harford County. It is a distinct honor to recognize the Civil Unit for the exemplary service and unparalled achievement.”
