Pedestrian Struck Fatal

(Harford County, Md) — On September 5, 2005 at 11:10am, Sheriff’s deputies responded to 517 Newberry Court, Joppa for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Alice Marie Gorgensen, 87, of the 500 block of Newberry Ct. was walking on the sidewalk approaching 517 Newberry Court when a 1993 Ford Aerostar van driven by Thomas Allen Bunn, 55, struck her and knocked her to the ground. Bunn was backing out of his driveway at 517 Newberry and failed to see Mrs. Gorgensen as she approached. Mrs. Gorgensen was treated at the scene by medics from the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company and then flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Medivac. Mrs. Gorgensen died as a result of her injuries shortly before 3pm. Her body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending. Once the investigation is complete the matter will be forwarded to the Harford County States Attorney’s Office for review. Mrs. Gorgensen is the seventh traffic fatality on County roads thus far in 2005. It is the fifth fatality Sheriff’s deputies have investigated within the past month.
