Sheriff's Office Kicks Off Annual Christmas Drive
Holiday Tradition is Now in Its 31st Year
(Harford County, MD - November 26, 2013) - Sheriff L Jesse Bane announced today The Harford County Sheriff's Office Annual Christmas Drive is underway for this holiday season. "This year's drive, now in its 31st year, is being chaired by Captain Steve Thomas and Lauren Brooks", said the Sheriff. "The Harford County Sheriff's Office has been committed to helping families during the holiday season for more than a quarter of a century", Bane said, adding, "The program has grown significantly in the last 30 years through the dedication and help of dozens of volunteers from the Harford County Sheriff's Office, the Harford County Sheriff's Office Explorers Post 6600, the Harford County Sheriff's Office Citizens' Police Academy Alumni Association and a variety of committed business, civic and community members". The Sheriff explained, in 2012, the Christmas Drive reached out to and helped more than 127 families (251 children and 212 adults). Christmas gifts and food were delivered to various communities throughout the county.
The Harford County Sheriff's Office is accepting tax-deductible donations of toys, non-perishable foods; holiday candy; personal hygiene items such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes and deodorant; first aid supplies such as band-aids and bandages. Toys specifically sought out this year are dolls, crayons, actions figures, and games. Items for teens, ages 12-15 are also in high demand. Specifically requested for girls are purses, make-up and lotions and for boys, sports equipment and games. Cash is accepted and checks should be made payable to the "Harford Sheriff Foundation - Christmas Drive" and mailed to the foundation at P.O. Box 150, Bel Air, Maryland 21014.

Prearranged drop off's may also be made at the "Christmas Shop," formerly the RoomStore located in The Festival at Bel Air.
"Our annual Christmas Drive has become such a part of the fabric of the Sheriff's Office, and our community," said Captain Thomas, noting that agency members and community partners alike always look forward to this time of year. Thomas noted that businesses like Thompson Scion in Edgewood are having events such as a Breakfast with Santa on December 7th at 9am to encourage people to stop by and drop off gifts for the Sheriff's Office Holiday Drive. "The holidays are a special time for everyone and through the generosity of all of our volunteers, and the donations from the community, we can make it a joyous time for those less fortunate than ourselves," Thomas said, adding, "I am indeed thankful for the many community partners who have come together to support our Harford County community through such a worthwhile endeavor."
