Barricade Incident at 700 Blk. of Erie Street, Havre de Grace

[September 28, 2013, Havre DE Grace, MD] - On Saturday, September 28, 2013 at approximately 4:20 pm Officers of the Havre de Grace Police Department responded to the 700 block of Erie Street for a Fight in Progress. Officers arrived and discovered a male suspect who was possibly armed and holding someone against their will. Harford County Sheriff's Office personnel from the Crisis Negotiation Team and the Special Response Team were called to assist.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had barricaded himself in a room of an apartment at the location. As police were negotiating with the suspect for his surrender, the suspect pointed an object at the responding officers. He was shot by a member of the SRT unit. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators have tentative identification on the suspect but the name is being held pending notification of next of kin.

Initial information provided to officers was that the suspect had a protective order against him stemming from an earlier incident with a female who resided at the location. No other information is available at this time as the follow-up investigation is being handled by Harford County Sheriff's Detectives and is continuing.
