Two Suspects Arrested for 1st Degree Assault

Victim was shot with a BB Gun

[September 10, 2013, Aberdeen, Maryland] - On September 9, 2013 at 6:56pm, deputies responded to the unit block of Spesutia Road., Aberdeen, for a report of an assault. Deputies spoke with John Finlayson, 59, who advised at approximately 6:30pm he was standing in his driveway speaking to a friend when an orange Jeep Wrangler with a black soft-top drove by his residence. He heard a loud discharge of air (crack) and was hit on the back of his left leg with a BB. Mr. Finlayson stated that when he was shot, the impact stung, but refused medical treatment. Mr. Finlayson observed the rear window of the Jeep was open and the right rear passenger was holding something black and was laughing. He last saw the vehicle on Route 40 driving towards Edgewood.

Responding deputies located the suspect vehicle at the 7-11 convenience store on Rt. 40 and Long Bar Harbor Rd. Deputies identified the driver as Patrick Michael Mcdermott, 18, of 1313 Winding Valley Drive, Joppa. Found inside the vehicle was a loaded BB rifle with a folding stock. A passenger, Matthew Joseph Humphries, 18, of 3923 Love Ave, in Edgewood, was identified by the victim as the suspect who shot him. Both suspects were arrested and charged with 1st and 2nd degree assault. After appearing before a Harford County District Court Commissioner both were ordered held in the Harford County Detention Center under $100,000 bond. Two other passengers in the car were identified but not charged.
