Harford County Chamber of Commerce Recognizes Sheriff’s Deputy

Dfc Gerard Morgan Honored for Life Saving Actions

(Harford County, Md) — On June 16, 2005, the Harford County Chamber of Commerce recognized Deputy First Class Gerard Morgan II with their 2005 Police Officer of the Year Award for his actions at the scene of a motor vehicle crash.

On July 20, 2004, Dfc Morgan responded to a residence in Darlington, Maryland for an assault. Morgan began a search for the suspect and his vehicle and as he did witnessed the suspect drive through a stop sign and strike an oncoming SUV. The driver of the truck was ejected and seriously injured. As DFC Morgan was assessing him for injuries he heard a female crying for help. As he approached the smoking truck he detected a strong odor of gasoline that was spilling onto the roadway and observed the victim was trapped. Morgan managed to free the victim and removed her through a shattered rear window to a location a safe distance away before a fire that erupted several minutes later.

Morgan was selected from several nominees submitted to the Chamber Board. He and his family were guests of the Chamber at their monthly luncheon held at the Bayou Restaurant in Havre de Grace on June 16th.
