Fatal Car Crash
(Harford County, MD) — Harford County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred at 7:30am today at the intersection of Route 40 and Route 152 in Joppa. Patrick Dale Fowler, 82, of the 2100 block Hawthorne Rd. Baltimore, was killed after he failed to stop at the red light. Fowler, who was driving a 1990 red Chevy Cavalier, struck a marked police car being driven by Cpl. James Osborne, 39. Osborne, an 8-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, had the green and was proceeding through the intersection when his car was struck in the driver’s side. The impact and resulting crash trapped Osborne in the car. He was extricated from the car by members of the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer ire Company and then flown by Maryland State Police helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma. Mr. Fowler was taken by ambulance to the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The westbound lanes of Rt. 40 at Rt. 152 were closed for approximately three hours while crash investigators reconstructed the accident scene. Their investigation will continue as they try to determine what caused Mr. Fowler to run the red light.
