Deputy Injured While Attempting to Apprehend Suspect

(March 1, 2012, 1:00am – Edgewood MD) At approximately 10:20pm on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 – Harford County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call for service in the 1800 block of John Drive in Edgewood, MD for a report of breaking and entering. When deputies arrived at the scene, they established a perimeter and after hearing a scream from inside, forced entry into the residence. Inside they located three suspects. Two suspects were apprehended by the deputies and a third one fled. Charges are pending against the individuals in connection with the incident that occurred that evening. The investigation is ongoing.

William Joseph Fleming, age 24, of Kingsville, MD, one of the suspects apprehended was taken into custody on a circuit court arrest warrant. He is currently being held at Harford County Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

The third suspect, who dove through a plate glass window to elude capture, is described as a black male and may be injured as a result of his actions. Anyone with information on the third suspect is encouraged to contact Harford County Sheriff's Detective Tom Walsh at 410‐836‐5408.

A Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputy, DFC Tyler Vass, a two‐year veteran, suffered a severe laceration to his arm, from the shards of glass, while trying to apprehend the third suspect. He was transported to John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center by Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company. He was released shortly before 5am on March 1st and is considered to be in good condition.
