[Bel Air, MD, November 26, 2011] – At approximately 10:55pm Thursday, November 24, 2011, Inmate Michael Ray Malpass, age 26, was found unresponsive in his cell by a Harford County Detention Center Correctional Officer while on routine tour of the inmate area he was housed. He was housed alone for medical reasons. Correctional Officers immediately began life saving measures and Malpass was transported by Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased at 12:08am on Friday, November 25, 2011. There were no signs of foul play.
Malpass, an admitted IV heroin user, had been housed in the Harford County Detention Center since November 18, 2011. He was being held without bond and awaiting trial for armed robbery, assault 1st and 2nd degree, and failure to appear.
