Fatal Accident at Foster Knoll and Joppa Farm Road

(Joppa, MD – April 24, 2010) Shortly after 7pm on Friday, April 23, 2010, Harford County Sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident involving a 2009 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2010 Toyota Corolla on Joppa Farm Road near Foster Knoll Road in Joppa, MD.

The operator of the motorcycle identified as Karl Michael Kunz, age 20, of Edgewood, MD was transported by the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

Preliminary investigation by the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit determined that the Toyota Corolla was traveling westbound on Foster Knoll Road. After coming to a stop at Foster Knoll Drive and Joppa Farm Road, the car began to proceed across Joppa Farm Road. Witnesses stated that the operator of the motorcycle had been traveling north passing vehicles at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone, when he struck the driver side door of the car. The operator of the motorcycle was ejected, while the Toyota Corolla continued moving forward striking a tree and sign on Foster Knoll before coming to a stop.

The driver of the Toyota Corolla was operated by Qiang Fu, age 20, of Baltimore MD. He was transported by Kingsville Volunteer Fire Company to Bayview Medical Center. He was wearing a seat belt.

As in all fatal motor vehicle accidents, the States Attorney’s Office will review the investigation, however, there are no charges expected.
