Deputies Investigate Discovery of Human Bones

(Jarrettsville, MD – June 26, 2008) — Harford County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the discovery of human bones located in a shed, previously used as a chicken coop in the Northern region of Harford County.

At approximately 2:08 pm on June 25, 2008, deputies were called to the 1400 block of Rock Ridge Road, Jarrettsville, MD after a worker, cleaning out the shed, discovered what appeared to be human bones. An arm bone, a leg bone, a partial pelvic bone and partial skull were discovered in a canvas duffle bag inside of the shed. Detectives determined that there was writing or a stamp on at least one of the bones. Such stamps generally indicate that the bones were used as a teaching prop or in an educational setting.

The bones were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for further analysis. A preliminary examination indicates these bones were most likely used as a tool in a teaching environment. Additional testing will occur in an attempt to conclusively verify the preliminary findings.
