Toddler Struck and Killed By Daycare Provider’s Car

(Edgewood, MD) — An Edgewood toddler was killed this afternoon when she was mistakenly run over by the car of her daycare provider. The toddler, 2-year-old Kaiya Alexis Bryant, of the 400 block of Buxton Court, was pronounced dead at Upper Chesapeake Memorial Hospital at 12:53 p.m. shortly after being struck by the 2004 white Toyota Ciena minivan of her daycare provider. The woman, whose name is not being released, was watching six children at the time of the accident – three were her own, three were in her care. The woman told police it was approximately 12:15 p.m. when she placed the children in the car and prepared to leave. As the woman backed up, she told police, she “heard a thump.” She stopped the car and discovered she had run over the toddler. Sheriff’s deputies and members of Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene in the 2400 block of Beaver Crossing Court in Edgewood. The child, who suffered head injuries, was taken by ambulance to Upper Chesapeake, where she was pronounced dead. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Division are continuing to investigate the accident. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine whether charges will be filed against the driver.
