Stabbing at Local Business Injures Several

(11:50pm - Friday, December 21, 2007 – Harford County, MD) — At approximately 2:40 pm, the Emergency Operations Center received two 911 calls. One in relation to a stabbing at Harford Duracool located in the 21 hundred block of Pulaski Hwy near Havre de Grace MD; the second for a carjacking at a Ryan’s Furniture Store, also in the 21 hundred block of Pulaski Hwy. Through on-site investigation, Harford County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovered that the suspect entered the business stabbing and injuring several people. He was identified as David Kennedy, 37 of the first block of Lewis Drive in Aberdeen, MD. While inside the building, Kennedy stabbed four individuals, including a woman identified as his wife. A fifth woman was injured inside the building during the rush of activities. He fled the building and subsequently the parking lot by pick up truck. He hit several vehicles as he departed. Four additional female employees were injured in the parking lot. Three of the victims were hurt while trying to escape the moving vehicle; a fourth victim was struck by Kennedy’s truck.

Kennedy disabled his pick up truck a short distance away from Harford Duracool in the Route 40 median in front of Ryan’s Furniture store. He then stole a car from a male victim on the parking lot of Ryan’s and fled by vehicle on Route 40 towards the City of Havre de Grace. He was apprehended by Havre de Grace Police Department and transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Three of the stabbing victims were transported to Shock Trauma by Medevac; the remaining victims were transported by Havre de Grace Ambulance Corp, Aberdeen Volunteer Fire Company, Level Volunteer Fire Company, and Rising Sun Volunteer Fire Company to area hospitals. Releases of the names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Harford County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the local hospital and placed Kennedy in custody on a Circuit Court arrest warrant for non-support charges. He was released from the local hospital and transported to Harford County Detention Center. He is awaiting a hearing with a District Court Commissioner on the following charges: four counts of 1st degree assault, four counts of attempted 1st degree murder and one count of carjacking.
