Non-Custodial Child Abduction / Arrest Made

(Perryman, MD) — Harford County Sheriff’s deputies have arrested Tina Marie Billings, 26, of 115 Market St. in Havre de Grace, Maryland and charged her with non-custodial child abduction and child endangerment for the abduction of two year-old Tempest Ariah Akins from her home in Perryman.

At approximately 7:53pm, sheriff’s deputies were called to the 300 block of Mayberry Drive in Perryman after the child’s father, Ruben Pena, arrived home and found his 2 year-old daughter missing. Pena also discovered both his 9-month old and three year-old daughter had been left unattended. Pena told police his wife had called home at approximately 7:20pm to check on the children. At that time they were home with the babysitter, Billings. Mr. Pena said when he discovered his child missing he called police. Sheriff’s deputies responded and after verifying the abduction began their investigation and initiated an AMBER Alert.

Deputies learned that Billings had been hired on December 4th by Mr. Pena and his wife to be their babysitter. When Pena arrived home and found his daughter gone he believed she had been abducted and called police. Police officers were familiar with Billings and began a search of the area to include known addresses in Aberdeen and Havre de Grace. A Baltimore County Police Department bloodhound also responded.

While detectives were en-route to Aberdeen they spotted Billings at Rt. 40 and Custis Street in Aberdeen. She was driving a 1986 white Dodge Aries K. Billings was immediately taken into custody and the child was recovered unharmed. Billings was then transported the Harford County Detention Center and charged with three counts of reckless endangerment, three counts of child neglect, two counts of unattended child and one count of non-custodial abduction. She will be held in the Detention Center pending an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
