Baltimore City Police Recruit Killed in Fatal Motorcycle Crash

(Edgewood, MD – September 16, 2007) — Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Saturday September 15, 2007, Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 2300 block of Hanson Road in Edgewood for a single vehicle crash involving a motorcycle.

Upon arrival deputies determined the single occupant of the motorcycle was deceased. The vehicle involved in the accident was a 2002 Honda Sport motorcycle. The preliminary investigation indicated the motorcycle was being operated at a high rate of speed and the driver lost control of the vehicle subsequently crashing into a road sign. The occupant was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The operator of the motorcycle has been identified as Ruben Renta, age 33, a resident of Edgewood. Mr. Renta was a police recruit in the Baltimore City Police Department and scheduled to graduate from the police academy in 2008.

Mr. Renta’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
