Sheriff’s Office Investigates Single Vehicle Fatal Crash

Sole Occupant Dies in Fiery Collision

(Whiteford, MD – October 16, 2006) — The Harford County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit is investigating a single vehicle fatal accident which occurred early this morning in northern Harford County. The incident was first reported to Harford County 9 1 1 as a field fire at approximately 2:35 a.m. However, upon arrival of first responding fire fighters from the Whiteford Volunteer Fire Company, they discovered a vehicle ablaze in the center of the roadway located in the 1100 block or Ridge Road.

The Sheriff’s Office was summoned to investigate and soon discovered that the vehicle had been traveling west bound on Ridge Road near Heaps School Road, crossed the center line and struck a tree head-on. The vehicle bounced off the tree, erupted into flames and came to rest facing west on Ridge Road.

The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle has been tentatively identified as David Robert Knox, age 20, of the 1500 block of Ridge Road in Whiteford. The vehicle involved in the accident was a 1999 Toyota Corolla owned by Catherine Knox.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death and to provide positive identification of the victim.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
