Suspects Nabbed for Stealing from Construction Sites

Seven Face Charges for Theft

(Bel Air, MD – October 5, 2006) — Seven adults face charges in connection with the theft and possession of various appliances and construction materials from construction sites throughout the county. Suspects were developed after Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of two vans unloading lumber and appliances at a residence in the 4000 block of Sharilyn Drive in Abingdon.

Deputies received a tip that two vans were unloading lumber and household appliances behind a home on Sharilyn Drive on a regular basis during the early morning hours. When deputies investigated, they found one of the vans to be unregistered and uninsured. While taking enforcement action on that vehicle, a second van proceeded into the area.

Due to numerous thefts from construction sites throughout the county, the occupants of the vehicle were detained for questioning. Those individuals provided information to deputies which resulted in investigators obtaining search and seizure warrants for two homes, two garages, four vehicles, one storage trailer and an outbuilding.

As a result of the searches, investigators discovered a variety of stolen property on the property of one of the suspects. The thefts had occurred over the course of the past few months.

Some of the stolen property included bathtubs, microwave ovens, dishwashers, generators, hand tools, shutters, wood products and a variety of other items. The value of the stolen property has not been determined, but is estimated as several thousand dollars.

Investigators are in the process of reviewing theft reports in an effort to match the recovered property with victim information. The investigation of equipment and materials from construction sites in the county is continuing.
