Third Suspect in Shooting – In Custody

(Edgewood, MD) — Continuing efforts by members of the Sheriff's Office has resulted in the arrest of the second of three suspects wanted for the shooting at the Harford Square Swim Club which occurred this past Friday, 6-4-2004. At 4:40am on June 11, 2004, Anthony Loyd Mitchell, 21, one of the alleged shooters involved was arrested by members of the Communities At Risk Team, assisted by Detectives and members of patrol.

Mitchell was arrested without incident at a private dwelling located in the 500 block of Rogers Street, Aberdeen, Maryland 21001. Sheriff's Office investigative team members surrounded the location where Mitchell was hiding. Contact was made at the residence and Mitchell surrendered to deputies. He was arrested without incident. Mitchell was transported to the Inter agency processing center and is awaiting a bail hearing.

Police have identified and are still searching for a third suspect in the shooting at the Harford Square Community Swimming Pool. Police have obtained arrest warrants for Antonio Major Corprew, 17, black male, 5’07”- 5’09”, 145 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Corprew is a juvenile charged as an adult and has no fixed or known address. Corprew is facing charges of attempted 1st and 2nd degree murder, numerous counts of 1st and 2nd degree assault, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony and reckless endangerment. According to witnesses, Corprew was seen outside the swim club just prior to the shooting and was seen getting into a black Chevy Impala car with the suspects, Anthony Mitchell and Lewis Cochran. Further investigation has revealed that once in the car Corprew became involved in argument with the other occupants of the car. He is alleged to have assaulted the other occupants and by threatening to kill them and then pointing a handgun at them. At some point during the argument the handgun was fired. Police are not certain if anyone in the car was injured. Detectives have recovered the black Chevy Impala but will not release any other details about the car’s recovery or any evidence found with the car.

Sheriff’s deputies have arrested one of the suspects in Friday’s shooting at the Harford Square Swim Club. Shortly after 5:00pm on June 8th, a tip led police to the 1200 block of Brice Square in Belcamp. Lewis Lee Cochran’s picture had been provided to the news media and aired on local television news stations. A viewer watching the news saw Cochran’s picture and called police telling them Cochran was in the vicinity of Brice Square. Uniformed deputies responded and took Cochran into custody without incident. He is currently being held at the Harford County Detention Center.

On Friday June 4, 2004 at 11:53pm, Harford County Sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the Harford Square development on Hanson Road in Edgewood when they heard a volley of shots coming from the Harford Square community swimming pool located at 1439 Harford Square Drive. Upon arrival, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Aylsworth Johnson, 33, of the 1300 block Harford Square Drive, and Josh Wary Barmer, 38, also of the 1300 block Harford Square Drive each suffered a gunshot wound to their upper torso. They were treated at the scene by members of the Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company and subsequently flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma by State Police Medivac. Mr. Barmer has since been released while Mr. Johnson remains hospitalized.

The investigation is continuing. If anyone has any information as to the whereabouts of Corprew is asked to call the Harford County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division at 410-836-5442.
