Speed Contributed to Accident

(Aberdeen, Md. – September 3, 2006) — A 21-year-old man was killed Sunday morning when the vehicle he was driving left the road and struck two trees. Joey Daniel Murphy, 21 who resided in the 2400 block of Old Robin Hood Road near Havre de Grace, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident was reported to the Harford County Emergency Operations Center shortly before 7:30 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, Sheriff’s Deputies found a Chevrolet pickup truck off the road and lodged against two trees. The accident occurred in the 100 block of Robin Hood Road near Sherwood Lane.

Preliminary investigation indicates the operator and sole occupant of the truck lost control of the vehicle while traveling at a high rate of speed. The vehicle left the traveled portion of the roadway, struck an embankment, rolled on its side and then struck at least two trees. The investigation is being conducted by the Traffic Unit of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.
