Edgewood Man Arrested for Assault

Two Men Stabbed Following Altercation

(Edgewood, Md. – August 7, 2006) — A 25 year-old Edgewood man was arrested early today and charged with stabbing two men shortly after midnight this morning. Derek James Benavidez, of the 500 block of Meadowood Drive in Edgewood was charged by Harford County Sheriff's Deputies with assault second degree.

Following investigation by Harford County Sheriff's Office, Criminal Investigation Division, Benavidez was charged with stabbing Thomas Patrick Saraullo, of the 800 block of Edgewood Road and John Allen Wright of the 100 block of School Street in Glen Rock, Pennsylvania. Saraullo sustained a puncture wound to his right bicep and left forearm, and a cut to his abdomen. Wright’s injuries consisted of a puncture wound to his chest.

Both victims were treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel from the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Company and where then transported to the Bayview Medical Center for further treatment.

The nature of the altercation between the two victims and Benavidez remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office.

Benevadiz was taken before a District Court Commissioner early this morning and was temporarily held at the Harford County Detention Center. He was subsequently released on $10,000 bond.
