Forest Hill Man Charged with Assault

Shot Neighbor in Neck With B B Gun

(Forest Hill, Md. – August 5, 2006) — Harford County Sheriff’s Deputies charged a 42 year-old Forest Hill man with assault, first degree, following a shooting incident Saturday evening. Todd Lee Messick, of the 1200 block of Walters Mill Road was arrested after he allegedly shot his neighbor, Gabriele Marita Chenoweth in the neck with a BB pellet gun.

The victim was mowing her lawn adjacent to the suspect’s home, when Messick became agitated and began blowing sand on her using a leaf blower. Chenoweth attempted to ignore the incident and continued cutting her grass. A few minutes later, the victim was operating her riding lawn mower parallel to her neighbor’s property line when she felt a sharp pain in her right neck. Chenoweth immediately looked in the direction of the Messick residence where she noticed the suspect on the front porch holding a rifle which was aimed at her.

Chenoweth was transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air for surgery to remove the pellet from her neck. She was treated and released.

Following further investigation by Sheriff’s Deputies, Messick was charged with assault first degree, assault second degree, and reckless endangerment. Messick was taken before a District Court Commissioner and was incarcerated in the Harford County Detention Center. He was later released on $75,000 bond pending trial.
