Child Injured in Off Road Vehicle Accident

(Bel Air, Md. – July 16, 2006) — A four-year old boy was seriously injured Sunday morning in a freak off road vehicle accident at his home. The youth who sustained injuries to his right thigh and groin area, was treated at the scene by emergency medical personnel from the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company, and then flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to the Johns Hopkins Hospital Pediatric Unit in Baltimore. He was listed in serious condition.

The incident occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. at the home of Scott and Renee Little located in the 1300 block of Gunston Road near Bel Air.

An investigation is being conducted by the Harford County Sheriff's Office Traffic Unit. Preliminary information indicates the youngster got into his fathers 2000 Chevrolet work van where he found the keys in the ignition. The boy then put the vehicle in gear which resulted in the truck rolling backwards down a driveway traveling more than 100 yards into a neighbors yard across the street.

While the vehicle was rolling backward, the young boy apparently jumped from the truck and was struck by the vehicle resulting in his injuries. There were no adults or other children in the truck at the time of the accident.

The investigation of the incident is continuing.
