Armed Robber Strikes Mt. Zion United Methodist Church

(Bel Air, Md. – January 1, 2006) — Evening services at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church located in the 1600 block of Churchville Road in Fountain Green, were interrupted when a man burst into the church brandishing a handgun. The incident occurred at approximately 6:37 p.m. Sunday evening.

The lone suspect described as a white male wearing dark clothing and a ski mask, ordered children and at least one adult member of the congregation to gather wallets and purses from approximately eight members of the congregation. Approximately 50 people were attending the church service when the robbery occurred.

There were no injuries reported.

After ordering members of the congregation to the front of the church, the suspect fled in an unknown direction with an undetermined amount of money and other valuables.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Harford County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding the crime is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 410-838-6600.

Additionally, Harford County Crime Solvers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for this armed robbery. Tipsters must call the twenty-four hour tip line at 1-888-540-TIPS to be eligible for the reward. Callers do not have to give their name or appear in court.
