UPDATE: Deputies Investigate Joppatowne Homicide
(Joppatowne, MD – April 30, 2009) –Harford County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating the homicide of a 59 year old man in the 600 block of Harborside Drive, Joppatowne, MD which occurred mid-afternoon on Wednesday April 29, 2009.
At approximately 3:25 p.m. deputies responded to a 911 call in the 600 block of Harborside Drive Joppatowne, MD in reference to a shooting. Deputies determined Charles W. Shourds was shot multiple times in the upper torso and died at the scene.
The female suspect, Rebecca Jeanette Kinser, 43, identified herself to deputies and was immediately taken into custody. Kinser told deputies that she was familiar with Shourds and that he was visiting from Kentucky. During his stay Kinser advised that Shourds had beaten and raped her several times with the last incident occurring just before the shooting. After showering, Kinser located her 9mm Beretta handgun and shot Shourds multiple times as he lay on the living room couch. Kinser then went to a neighbor’s apartment and waited for deputies to arrive.
Kinser was treated at the scene for non-life threatening injuries and transported to Upper Chesapeake Medical Center by Joppa Magnolia Volunteer Fire Department. After Kinser was treated she was transported to the Harford County Detention Center where she is being held without bond.
